I haven’t been in the wholesale game that long. And I’ve been doing wholesale outreach even less time than that. But I have already found quite a bit of success with my outreach strategy (hint: it requires genuine engagement with retailers!). Here are some tips for reaching out to potential stockists.
- Follow your ideal wholesale customers on socials. Follow a LOT of them. Some will follow you back!
- Engage genuinely with retailers on socials, especially Instagram and Threads. Don’t be a nag, but get your brand stuck in their heads. You might even make some friends along the way.
- From here, you can decide who you want to email. Start with the retailers who followed you back (and mention in your message, “hey, we follow each other on insta, let me introduce myself!).
- Look at their websites and socials. Try to address your emails by name if you can. If you see something you connect with on their website, mention that in your email. Long story short, don’t send your generic form email as-is if you can avoid it. The more personalized you get, the better the chances of getting your email read.
I have a lot more thoughts about wholesale, but there’s a quick and dirty primer on what I’ve been having success with (because I’m not gatekeeping) ☺️
